In memory of Tina Turner: When the world star was in a dispute with a concert promoter from Bavaria

2023-05-25T08:40:00.298Z

Highlights: Tina Turner had a legal dispute with a Bavarian concert promoter. The dispute was about an advertising poster with which the show "Simply The Best - The Tina Turner Story" was advertised. In January 2020, the Cologne Regional Court ruled that Dorothea "Coco" Fletcher, who was around 50 years younger and played the world star in the Tina Turner Show, resembled the original too much on the poster. The music legend died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, May 24.

The world mourns the loss of Tina Turner. The singer left a lasting impression – and recently made a name for herself in front of a court in Bavaria.

Passau – It's been almost four years since the world star Tina Turner had a legal dispute with a Bavarian concert promoter. In front of the Regional Court of Cologne, it was about an advertising poster with which the show "Simply The Best - The Tina Turner Story" was advertised.

Dispute before the Cologne District Court: Tina Turner wins against Passau concert promoter

This compliment should please everyone over 80 years of age: In January 2020, the Cologne Regional Court ruled that Dorothea "Coco" Fletcher, who was around 50 years younger and played the world star in the Tina Turner Show of Passau concert promoter Oliver Forster (COFO Entertainment), resembled the original too much on the advertising poster.

Tina Turner had already ended her career ten years ago and celebrated her 2019th birthday at the end of November 80. It was therefore clear to Forster that the advertising poster could not mislead anyone that Tina Turner was really appearing at the show. He suspected that other organizers of Tina Turner shows were to be forced out of the market, as a musical in honor of the world star was being performed in Hamburg. Forster's musical has already been performed more than 100 times in German-speaking countries, for about a decade. But the court still saw the case differently.

Confusingly similar: Passau concert promoter is not allowed to advertise with double

According to the court, three points were decisive: Tina Turner was still alive, the double looked confusingly similar to her and her name was written in large letters on the poster. Taken together, the Cologne district court therefore ruled that Forster was not allowed to deceive the audience about the rock icon's participation in the show "Simply The Best – The Tina Turner Story".

Unfortunately, at least one of the three points is no longer valid in 2023. The music legend died at the age of 83 on Wednesday, May 24.
