Connect the east of the metropolis to its heart in about twenty minutes. The promise of the high-level bus service project between Les Sept Chemins, in Bron, and Part-Dieu, in Lyon, has seduced the elected representatives of Sytral (the transport authority of the metropolis of Lyon and the Rhône department). They unanimously approved the route and implementation of what will be the city's first trambus by 2026, at Thursday's council meeting. Equipped with a dedicated corridor, this new means of transport will offer "an efficient level of service with a significant time range", from 4:30 am to 0:30 am, boasts the Sytral, with a frequency of about 7 minutes in rush hour. This line will also allow a more efficient connection with the structuring lines of the TCL network such as metro A, trams T3 and T9 and the Rhône express.

A major project of the mandate plan, the Part-Dieu - Sept Chemins BRT line is a strong response to the mobility needs identified in eastern Lyon and a necessary support for the urban renewal undertaken in the territories crossed, welcomes Bruno Bernard, President of the Métropole de Lyon (EELV). The new generation BRT, which can be described as a trambus because it is comparable to a tram in terms of performance and facilities, will not only be a real alternative to the private car for the inhabitants of the municipalities concerned, but also the opportunity for a qualitative urban requalification, offering them a peaceful and embellished living environment."

Some residents worried about potential expropriations

The approval of the file by elected officials opens a new stage, that of the public inquiry prior to the Declaration of Public Utility. A first phase of consultation was conducted in autumn 2021. A truncated consultation according to the criticism of a handful of residents of the road from Genas, to Bron, whose housing is on the route and will have to be partially demolished. They fear expropriation. Because the BRT project doubles as that of the Lyon road number 11, the name of this express network of cycle paths wanted by ecologists, which requires a significant width of roads. "Studies are continuing in order to refine the insertion of the project in the public space," says Sytral.

Pedestrian and cycling facilities are planned along the route to improve air quality and noise pollution thanks to the reduction of road traffic, but also to adapt to the effects of global warming. The revegetation of the surroundings would thus make it possible to fight against heat islands. This €120 million project will also support the redevelopment of several districts, from Bron Terraillon to Grand Clément, via Les Genêts. Meetings with the population are scheduled for June 24 in Chassieu and June 25 in Genas, while dialogue continues with residents of the Genas road.
