The ice cream parlor owners in the district of Munich are struggling with prices for raw materials and energy. The scoop of ice cream costs significantly more everywhere than last year.
County – If you buy a fine milk ice cream with your family at the weekend in sunshine and bathing weather, you will be surprised. Until recently, prices were significantly lower. The current inflation does not spare the ice cream parlors in the district of Munich either.
"Everything has become more expensive, the sugar, the cream, the milk, just all the food in general. But transport costs and energy costs have also risen sharply," says Dardan Morina, owner of the Florence ice cream parlour in Unterhaching. Due to the high costs, he had to increase his ice cream by 20 cents to 1.80 euros per scoop this year. And he's not alone. In Grünwald and Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, too, the price of a scoop of ice cream has risen by 20 cents. In the city of Garching, the ice cream parlors Calimero and Gelato have even increased their prices by 30 cents.
Opening hours adjusted
"The costs for food, personnel and energy have risen by 45 percent," reports Luca Peressutti, owner of the ice cream parlour Il Gelato Italiano on Grünwald's market square. Some ice cream parlors have also adjusted their opening hours. "I hope I can be open until 21 p.m. again in the summer. But in the cold weather, no one came after 19 p.m.," says Dardan Morina. Luca Peressutti has not adjusted the opening hours, as he himself works in the shop all day, but he has shortened the working hours of his employees. "I'm often alone in the store, otherwise the personnel costs are too high," he says.
Prices continue to rise?
Whether ice cream lovers have to expect prices to continue to rise depends on the ice cream parlor. Dardan Morina is sure that he will not raise the price further. "I don't want to sell a scoop of ice cream for two euros, I think that would be ridiculous," he says. His colleague Luca Peressutti from Grünwald prefers not to agree with this statement: "If the cost of food continues to rise so sharply, we may also have to adjust prices further."
However, ice cream sellers remain optimistic. "We've had fewer customers so far this year, but our regular customers are still loyal," says Morina proudly. And Peressutti is also confident: "When the sun finally shines more, then I believe that business will go very well this season as well." Lidwina Mroscok
