Puchheim - For 20 years now, the "new" city center has been discussed in Puchheim, both in the city council and with the citizens of the city.
The city library, music school and adult education centre are to be given a new home in their own buildings, the dilapidated citizens' meeting place has to make way for the new buildings, while the old school, which is currently used as a kindergarten, is to be put to a different use.
Large-scale project of the city
Such a long process is surprising at first glance, but it is a project that is not easy to realize in the middle of the existing building and that must be sensibly embedded in an overall urban development idea. A project that will shape the face of the city for a long time to come, in the planning of which future developments should be taken into account, especially in the field of education. It is the largest investment since the founding of the city.
New halls for the vhs and music school
On 20 and 21 May, the city council dealt with the project again during a closed-door meeting, reflected on the ideas developed over the years and set the course with regard to open questions. This should lead to public discussion and decision-making in the coming months. For further planning and calculations, a previously planned full basement is to be dispensed with. A cellar should only be built if and only to the extent that it is technically necessary. The idea of realizing a separate hall for the music school due to the specific requirements was retained. The planning of another hall for use by the VHS was also confirmed by a majority. This hall will also be open for other uses.
The next step is planning services and cost estimates
The members of the city council dealt intensively with the question of how the approximately 700 square meters of multifunctional space can be used. Favour was given to the most flexible, rather small-scale and preferably commercial use possible. Various options are to be developed by the administration and evaluated from a cost point of view. The Old School is to be prepared as a hall on the ground floor, which can be managed by a caterer if desired. Commercial use is possible on the upper floor.

The administration now has the task of preparing the content of these agreements and initiating the awarding of planning services and cost estimates. The City Council will pay particular attention to the issues of financing, for which it has requested concrete explanations. In doing so, he will take a longer-term perspective, as the construction project is unlikely to be completed in the current decade.

Mayor Norbert Seidl praised the constructive cooperation across all parliamentary groups and emphasized: "It is good to see that, despite different ideas in detail, all parliamentary groups still want the city center and were able to agree almost unanimously on key points for further planning. Nothing has been decided yet, but the administration now has the basics at hand with which it can prepare the targeted referral to the committees." Citizens were involved in the planning in numerous formats, from citizens' workshops and glass house discussions to table center rounds with so-called stakeholders.
