The deputy director of Kiev's military intelligence service also assured in an interview with Die Welt that Ukraine was trying to kill Wagner's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Prigozhin also a target

"He is at the top of our list," he said, believing that the conflict could only end with the death of the one who "coordinates" the offensive. Vadym Skibitsky also acknowledged that his services were seeking to eliminate the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin: "We are trying to kill him. But our priority remains to eliminate the commander who orders his men to attack." Skibitsky acknowledged, however, that Putin remained a difficult target since he remained "locked up" most of the time.

"In the end, everyone will have to answer for their actions," Skibitsky said. "Putin notices that we are getting closer and closer to him, but he is also afraid of being killed by his people," Skibitsky told Die Welt. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked about the strengthening of Putin's protection measures, assured that the Russian security services "know their work and know what they are doing".

Peskov said Skibitsky's interview was confirmation that Russia was right to launch the "special military operation" in Ukraine fifteen months ago. "The terrorist regime talks about its terrorist aspirations. The special military operation is more than justified, more than necessary and must be complemented by the realization of its objectives," Peskov said.
