The Argentine tennis player Thiago Tirante will play his first Grand Slam at Roland Garros from next Sunday, after having overcome today in the third and final round of the classification to the Swiss Dominic Stricker by 6-3, 1-6 and 6-1, while his compatriot Facundo Bagnis lost and was eliminated.
Tirante, born in La Plata 22 years ago and ranked 153rd in the ATP world ranking, beat Stricker (116) after an hour and 50 minutes of play and thus was able to overcome a Grand Slam classification for the first time in his sixth attempt.
The platense had not been able to cross the "qualy" in the editions of the Australian Open of 2022 and 2023, nor in Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open last year.
The Argentine, champion this year in the Challenger of Morelos, in Mexico, joins his eight compatriots who had entered directly by ranking to the Grand Slam to be played in Paris from Sunday, May 28 to Sunday, June 11.

Those who entered directly are Francisco Cerúndolo (28); Sebastián Báez (44), Tomás Martín Etcheverry (46); Pedro Cachín (63); Diego Schwartzman (93); Federico Coria (94) and Guido Pella (421), who will play with protected ranking.
Among the ladies, the only representative of Argentina will be Nadia Podoroska from Rosario (101).
For his part, the Santa Fe Facundo Bagnis (124) lost in the third and final round of the "qualy" with the Spanish Pedro Martínez (135) by 2-6, 7-5 and 6-0 after two hours and 13 minutes of play, and will not be in the Parisian Grand Slam.
Four other Argentine tennis players will try to access the main draw from qualifying: Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Renzo Olivo, who will play later, and Facundo Díaz Acosta and Genaro Alberto Olivieri, who will play tomorrow.
The rosarino Olivo (259) will play his entrance to the main draw against the Chinese Juncheng Shang (200) and the porteño Camilo Ugo Carabelli (150) will be measured with the Moldovan Radu Albot (111).
For his part, Facundo Díaz Acosta (137) will face tomorrow in the third and final round the Austrian Sebastián Ofner (118) and the Bragadense Genaro Alberto Olivieri (227) will face the Bulgarian Adrián Andreev (214).
