Students camped with tents in Udine ask for public housing

(ANSA) - UDINE, 25 MAY - From today they camped with tents and signs in front of the Student House of Udine, closed since 2017 except for a study room, to ask the institutions to immediately activate a discussion table between the university, the Region and the Municipality, which gives immediate answers to the "urgent need for public housing", even in the face of the expensive rents of private apartments.
They are students of the Union of University Students. "We decided on this form of protest after two years of repeated requests to the institutions, given the closure of the Student House since December 2017, for renovation," said the coordinator of the union, Ambra Canciani. "We are against spending on private facilities such as Casa Burghart in the station - he continued - we need to get to a table to find a public and forward-looking solution, making an investment in this Student House with clear and transparent figures. We will continue the protest here in Viale Ungheria, we are waiting for signals for a table from the institutions ".
The deputy mayor of Udine, Alessandro Venanzi, met the demonstrators at the student presidium. "We are aware asadministration of the problem of rents and accommodation for students - he said on the sidelines - we are aware of the numerical need for space, since Casa Burghart increases costs and decreases space. Instead, this Student House was affordable and had an adequate number of places.
