Was Lindsay's suicide the result of harassment she was experiencing? This is the track that seems to favor the investigation conducted by an investigating judge of Bethune. Two weeks after the terrible tragedy in Vendin-le-Vieil, Pas-de-Calais, five people have been indicted, learned this Thursday Le Figaro from the prosecutor of the Republic. "Four minors were indicted by the investigating judge on the charge of school bullying that led to suicide. An adult has been indicted on the charge of death threats, "says Thierry Dran.
On May 12, Lindsay was found dead in her home by her relatives. Schooled at Bracke-Desrousseaux College in Vendin-le-Vieil, the teenager had denounced acts of harassment she had suffered at school and on social networks since the start of the school year in September 2022. Insults, physical violence, fights... Two complaints were filed in February by Lindsay's family who also notified the school's management, reports BFMTV. This was followed by the opening of a "bullying" commission at school to mediate between the families and the pupils concerned.
Farewell letter
But in February, Lindsay writes a farewell letter that she hides under her mattress. Two months later, she killed herself. In the course of the investigations, the Béthune prosecutor's office seems to have opted for a suicide related to the harassment suffered by the teenager. A judicial investigation was opened on 20 May on charges of "school bullying resulting in a deterioration of living conditions affecting health and leading the victim to suicide and death threats". The five defendants were released under judicial supervision.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Pap Ndiaye, announced that a "mental health training for school life staff" would be launched at the beginning of next September to "detect the states of fragility and difficulties of students".
