President Alberto Fernández will participate this Thursday in the traditional Tedeum to be held in the metropolitan cathedral, on the occasion of commemorating a new anniversary of the May Revolution.

The religious celebration will begin at 11 a.m. in the Metropolitan Cathedral, presided over by the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Mario Aurelio Poli, together with the auxiliary bishops of the city, and will include the participation of leaders of other religious confessions.

For his part, the president will attend with a large part of his cabinet, as he did last year, official sources reported.

The organization of the event is in charge of the Presidency and will be broadcast live by Public Television, as reported by the Office of Institutional Communication of the Archbishopric of Buenos Aires.

However, the president will not be present at the Plaza de Mayo later in the act for the 20th anniversary of the arrival to power of Néstor Kirchner, who will have as main speaker Vice President Cristina Kirchner.

As Clarín anticipated, after the K fury over the reference he made to Cristina's corruption in an interview in which he spoke of "very serious ethical imprudence" of the vice president, the president decided to retreat well away from the mobilization.

After the Tedeum and the recommendation made by Kirchnerism so that "it does not even occur" to peek through the Plaza, he will fly to Chapadmalal to settle over the weekend at the presidential residence.

This way he will avoid crossing paths with Cristina, who anyway wants to dispense with using the facilities of the Casa Rosada and for that reason he ensured the assembly of a bunker adjacent to the stage in which he will give his speech. There you will be able to hold meetings and receive leaders before and after the event.

During the first two years of his term, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Fernández participated in the Tedeum virtually.

As on previous occasions, it is expected that the President will arrive at the cathedral walking from the Casa Rosada, with the escort of the Regiment of Grenadiers and the Patricians, and that already inside the temple he will go to the mausoleum of General José de San Martín to pay homage and place a wreath to the Father of the Nation.

The celebration of the Tedeum – which in Latin means "To you, God" – has been held every May 25 since the first patriotic government of 1810, in gratitude for the emergence of the Argentine State, which proclaimed its independence in 1816.

This year's will be the lastTedeum of the management of Alberto Fernández and also the last of Poli, who will leave office soon, after having reached the age limit of 2022 years in 75.

Of very low profile throughout his pastoral management in the city of Buenos Aires and with several internal questions, Poli presented his resignation on November 29, 2022, when he turned 75 years old – as established by canonical rules – but, for the moment, it did not become effective.

In ecclesiastical circles, expectations are growing for who will be chosen by Pope Francis to succeed Poli, and an imminent definition of who will occupy the ownership of the Buenos Aires archdiocese is expected.

During the last Holy Week celebrations at the metropolitan cathedral, Poli revealed at a Mass that Pope Francis asked him to stay until his successor is named.

"As you know, at the age of 75 the bishops presented to the Holy Father our disposition, and it was accepted, but he also gave me a yapa: 'Stay until the next one comes,'" the cardinal said at the Chrism Mass last Holy Thursday about his conversation with the pope.

Poli also currently chairs the Education Commission of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, an organization from which it has been working on the proposal of an "Argentine Educational Pact" that will be delivered soon to the presidential candidates who present themselves this year.
