Even before the start of the bathing season, the Bavarian Water Rescue Service warns people to be too careless at the water - in order to avoid bathing deaths and accidents.
Munich - Summer is just around the corner, even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment. With the warmest season, many people are looking for the cool water. Whether in the outdoor pool or at the Bavarian bathing lakes. But where there is water, there are also some dangers for swimmers and bathers. That's why Wasserwacht Bayern is already warning against carelessness when bathing.
Before the bathing season starts: Water rescue calls for "respect for the element of water"
"Even before the first bathing deaths and bathing accidents occur, we call for respect for the element of water, which should never be underestimated, be it at the lake, in the outdoor pool or on rivers. Every bathing accident is one too many and must be avoided at all costs," says Thomas Huber, the state chairman of the Bavarian Water Rescue Service.

Swimming in Bavarian lakes: Wasserwacht is on site with volunteers
More than 130,000 volunteer water guards are deployed throughout Bavaria to ensure safety on and in the waters. "Many of Bavaria's lakes are supervised by volunteers at water rescue stations on weekends and public holidays," says Huber. Rapid intervention has already saved many lives in recent decades. According to Huber, the emergency services will act in the same way this year as well.
