A Cambodian man was eaten Friday by about 40 farmed crocodiles after falling into their enclosure, police said.

The 72-year-old man was trying to pull a crocodile out of its cage when the reptile pulled him inward after grabbing his stick. The crocodiles then attacked him and shredded his body.

While hunting a crocodile from a cage dedicated to egg-laying, the crocodile attacked his stick, causing the man to fall into the pen," said Mey Savry, the police chief of Siem Reap (northwest). "Other crocodiles then pounced on him until he died," he said, adding that remains of his body were found covered in bites.

In 2019, a two-year-old girl was eaten by several crocodiles from a reptile farm, also located in Siem Reap, Mey Savry added. Several reptile farms have opened near this tourist town in northwestern Cambodia, which is the gateway to the Angkor temple site.
