The new multi-purpose hall with school canteen at Lodererplatz in Erding is an imposing building. This was already visible at the topping-out ceremony. It is scheduled for completion in September 2024.

Erding – It is one of the largest construction sites in Erding and the largest municipal investment in years: the triple gymnasium and multi-purpose hall with school canteen and grandstand at Lodererplatz. The gigantic construction costs 34 million euros. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on Thursday – exactly one year after the start of construction and a good five months after the foundation stone was laid.

"What we have seen so far is more than impressive," said Mayor Max Götz in his short speech. He welcomed not only representatives of the companies involved, the city council and the city administration, but also the neighbors, whom he thanked for their understanding during the construction period. The two heads of the primary and secondary school and Stephan Rettig from the education authority were also present.

The hall will also be built primarily for the students, Götz emphasized. But it can also be used for club sports – and for major events such as graduation ceremonies. "The hall solves a dilemma that we had to send our schools to Moosburg and Freising for school events because the town hall is too small for that," Götz explained. But: "This is not an event hall."

The grand opening is scheduled for August 2024. Physical education should be possible at the beginning of the 2024/25 school year. And not only that. The canteen with kitchen will also be ready by then. It is being built on the ground floor – with an outdoor area facing the Sempt. In the canteen, an external service provider will then serve 250 meals in a three-shift operation.

With regard to the cost increase from 28 to 34 million euros – due to price developments, the pandemic and the Ukraine war – Götz said: "Of course, it can be said that we have entered a difficult time. But in the end, good work costs money." In view of the many orders that have been returned due to inflation and interest rate hikes in the construction industry, the public sector is still called upon to tackle projects courageously.

Third district administrator Rainer Mehringer was "personally overwhelmed by the architecture of the building" and said: "The building is worth every penny." The citizens have a right to expect the municipality to offer them something. He was particularly pleased, who is also chairman of the Erding Forest Owners' Association, "that so much wood was used". The spruce wood comes from southern Germany and Austria.

With his clipboard under his arm, architect Arnd Rudolph stepped up to the lectern. The Munich-based office of Fuchs & Rudolph Architekten won the planning competition for the hall in November 2019. Like Götz before him, he emphasized the importance of craftsmen. "Machines are important tools, but the craftsmen build this house and are indispensable." And they did an excellent job, Rudolph praised. He went into details such as the wooden structure, which weighs a good 200 tons, and also addressed the deep foundation. The building is anchored in the ground to be safe even at higher groundwater levels.

The week after next, the roof will be put on, says Rudolph. In the case of building services, installation is about to begin. He wished that the construction progress would continue to be accident-free,

Carpenter Tobias Weiß from Pletschacher Holzbau GmbH in Dasing recited the topping-out speech in rhyme form, drank a glass of wine according to old tradition and let it shatter on the hall floor. The lively musical accompaniment of the topping-out ceremony was provided by the Old Bavarian Wind Ensemble of the District Music School.
