The family drama took place in their pavilion in Verrières-le-Buisson (Essonne). An 87-year-old man was arrested and placed in custody at the Massy-Palaiseau police station on Thursday, suspected of killing his wife, AFP said Friday.
This Thursday morning, the pensioner would have wrapped his wife with electric cables before killing her by electrocution. She had Alzheimer's disease. In front of the police, he admitted the facts, then explained that he would have done so at his request. He then attempted suicide, to no avail. The man was hospitalized without his prognosis being life-threatening. He remains in custody on Friday. An investigation has been opened for "homicide by spouse" told AFP the prosecutor's office of Evry-Courcouronnes. Contacted, he did not respond to our requests.
In October 2020, an 88-year-old man was sentenced by the Paris Assize Court to a four-year suspended prison sentence for fatally stabbing his wife with Alzheimer's in 2017. The court had found that the accused's discernment had been impaired by his "physical and psychological exhaustion", his "very great helplessness" and "helplessness" in the face of his wife's illness, for which doctors had told him that there was "nothing to do".
