In the north of the island of Rügen, there was a loud bang on Friday morning. According to initial findings, a gas heating system is said to have exploded. A holiday home has been destroyed, a second house is on fire.
Putgarten - After an explosion, a fire broke out in Putgarten in the north of the island of Rügen on Friday morning. It probably exploded a gas heater in an uninhabited holiday home at the time, as Mayor Iris Möbius (CDU) told the German Press Agency. The fire engulfed a second thatched house, which also burned to its full extent in a few minutes. Residents of a third neighboring house also had to vacate their apartments.
However, no one was injured, as the police said. "The explosion caused debris to fly onto the road," Möbius said. The municipality has set up a meeting place for the affected residents at the culture barn.
The houses in Putgarten, a few meters from Cape Arkona, have partly reed-covered roofs, which are particularly at risk of fire. Further details, including the amount of damage, are not yet known, according to the police. Dpa
