Pöcking - 24-year-old Babsi from Pöcking is suffering from blood cancer. A stem cell donation is their only chance for a cure.

Anyone who is healthy and between 17 and 55 years old can help and register as a potential stem cell donor with DKMS on Sunday, June 18, at the Beccult in Pöcking. Monetary donations are also needed, as the non-profit organization incurs costs of 40 euros for the registration of each donor alone.

24-year-old woman from Pöcking receives shock diagnosis

Babsi is suffering from blood cancer. The 24-year-old kindergarten teacher received this shock diagnosis only a few weeks ago. Since then, nothing has been the same. Babsi's daily life is dominated by hospitalizations and chemotherapy. She misses her "old" life and wants nothing more than to get well again. "I would love to be active in my clubs again, work with the children and just enjoy life again," says Babsi. She herself is described by those around her as a positive and cheerful young woman who has her heart in the right place. Babsi is not easy to get down and remains confident and strong. Nevertheless, this difficult phase demands a lot from her. Luckily, Babsi has a lot of lovely people around her. Everyone wants to help when they hear that Babsi can only live on through a stem cell donation.

Register as a stem cell donor in Pöcking on Sunday, 18 June

"The news hit us all hard," reports Franziska Curth. "I have been friends with Babsi for many years and together with her in the carnival club. It goes without saying that we help."

After all, Babsi can only survive if there is a person – somewhere in the world – with almost the same tissue characteristics who is willing to donate stem cells. "That's why it's important that as many people as possible register as potential stem cell donors. Only then can they be found as lifesavers," says Thea Luppart-Würf, Babsi's friend and co-initiator. Together with the DKMS, Babsi's family and friends, the initiative group organises the registration campaign in Pöcking. Under the motto "Together for Babsi", they all appeal to the people in the region to register on Sunday, June 18, 14 to 18 p.m. at Beccult, Weilheimer Straße 33 and 33a, 82343 Pöcking.

Registration is quick and easy: After filling out a consent form, donors perform a buccal swab using cotton swabs so that their tissue characteristics can be determined in the laboratory. People who have already registered in the file in the past do not need to participate again. Once data has been recorded, it will continue to be available worldwide. Registration will take place digitally, so participants are asked to bring a smartphone to the campaign.

Associations and organizations design a supporting program when registering in Pöcking

There will be a colorful supporting program around the registration, in which many clubs and organizations will participate. People who cannot come to Pöcking for the campaign and would like to register can order a registration set www.dkms.de/babsi their home via the link.
