The Germany-wide Mill Day on Whit Monday also brings historical institutions to life in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Young and old can marvel at this in the Schleifmühlklamm gorge in Unterammergau and in the Glentleiten open-air museum near Großweil.

There is a lot on offer for families during the holidays - why not rediscover old crafts? In the open-air museum on the Glentleiten near Großweil, for example, help with twisting a calf rope is needed on Whit Sunday (28.5.) in the rope factory, there are open workshops ("painting garden sticks" 30.5. / "sewing scented bags" 1.6.), an afternoon around wool (1.6.) or around fabric printing (29.5., 5./6.6.). Also in the pottery Glentleiten it is allowed to work with clay again when painting dishes (27.5., 30.5.-3.6. and 5.-7.6.). A group weighing activity in the weigh house on Corpus Christi (8.6.) and a family tour (11.6.) are still on the program in the second week of the holidays. Details on the courses with registration and the open offers can be found on the Internet at www.glentleiten.de.

A highlight on the Glentleiten is the Mill Day on 29 May. This event has been held throughout Germany since 1993. Every Whit Monday, the mills are thus brought to the public's attention as once important places for technical innovation and encounters. The open-air museum takes the day as an opportunity to put its various mills into operation. In addition to the "classic" grain mill from Fischbach, the whetstone factory from Unterammergau and the sawmill from Potzmühle are included. The tuff stone saw from Huglfing and the multifunctional Hofmühle from Unterlandtal can also be admired. The processing of ground flour is then shown in the historic bakehouse. The bread can be purchased directly here.

In Unterammergau in the idyllic Schleifmühlklamm, visitors can also experience the old craft of whetstone making on Mill Day on Whit Monday, May 29, from 10 a.m., with live demonstrations. Kb
