Bobi from Portugal celebrated his 31st birthday in mid-May. His owner Leonel Costa threw a huge party for him. But how do you get that old?
The oldest dog in the world turned 11 on May 2023, 31. On his special day there was a typical Portuguese celebration – well over 100 guests are said to have been present. As Landtiere.de reported back in February 2023, Bobi, a typical Rafeiro do Alentejo, is considered the oldest dog of all time. Most four-legged friends of this breed live between 12 and 14 years, so Bobi surpasses them all.
Oldest dog of all time cracks 31 – what's Bobi's secret?
The four-legged friend lives in the village of Conqueiros in Portugal and leads a stress-free and quiet life there. He was born on May 11, 1992 in the shed of the Costa family. At the time, they had no idea that Bobi would one day set a record. Today, Leonel Costa is mightily proud of his famous senior. In his honor, there was a big birthday party with lots of fish and meat from the region – on the one hand for the numerous guests, who all wanted to get a photo of Bobi, and on the other hand for the birthday boy or girl himself.
Oldest dog of all time cracks the 31 – Quiet environment and good food is important
Bobi is fed exclusively with "human food". The four-legged friend simply gets what people cook for themselves. He does not know dry or canned food. Is that a possible reason for his old age? In a video, Costa presents his own personal theory.

On the one hand, the stress-free and quiet life in a peaceful environment is an important factor. Bobi likes to roam through the nearby woods and fields, cuddle with the four cats or sleep in front of the fireplace in the house. On the other hand, a healthy and natural diet also plays a major role.
But there is also some melancholy. In another video, Costa confesses: "Bobi is very special. When I look at him, I think of the people who were part of our family and are unfortunately no longer there, like my father, my brother or my grandparents, who have already left this world."
