Iran and Belgium have reached an agreement for the "mutual exchange" of two detainees, who are currently in the Sultanate of Oman, mediator between Tehran and Western countries, announced the Foreign Ministry of this Gulf Arab state.
The two ex-detainees "were transported from Tehran and Brussels to Muscat today, Friday, May 26, 2023, with a view to their return to their respective countries," said the ministry, Belgium having confirmed the release of Belgian humanitarian Olivier Vandecasteele.

Last night, Olivier was driven to Oman where he was picked up by a team of Belgian soldiers and diplomats. He underwent a number of medical examinations there this morning to assess his state of health and allow his return in the best possible conditions," De Croo said. "If everything goes according to plan, he will be with us tonight. Free at last," he added.
