This is news that annoys second-hand enthusiasts. Since Thursday, the Vinted platform no longer allows payments via PayPal. On its website, the group invites its users "to use one of [its] other payment methods to pay for [their] order". They have the choice to pay with their credit card, Apple Pay, the Vinted wallet (which fills up thanks to the sales made) or via iDeal in the Netherlands.
Many customers expressed their incomprehension on social networks: "No more payment PayPal? So no more Vinted. The only reliable means of payment, so now it's dead." Same remark for this other user, for whom "the removal of PayPal penalizes buyers but also sellers, because a lot of people do not want to spin their bank details to a platform". To justify the choice to detach itself from PayPal, the company said this Friday to RTL that it "is constantly striving to understand what works best for [its] community in the different markets" where it operates.
PayPal allowed certain advantages to its customers, such as payment in three or four instalments without fees or protection against scams. Users had the possibility to report disputes on the payment platform and put a settlement in brackets until the resolution of the dispute, such as a lost package or a non-compliant item. Vinted, however, offers "buyer protection," charged in addition to the purchase of a product. It thus amounts to 70 cents, to which is added 5% of the price of the article.
