In the discussion about a refugee shelter in Taufkirchen, three locations are again in the running. Now the district office decides.
Taufkirchen – Fears and accusations have dominated the debate about a new accommodation for refugees in Taufkirchen in recent weeks (we reported). Now the situation is easing.
On the one hand, the district office provides for only 168 instead of 300 beds for refugees in Taufkirchen, Mayor Ullrich Sander (non-party) announced at short notice in the municipal council. The reasons for this are probably supply bottlenecks for containers, headwinds from the population and Taufkirchen's relatively high proportion of migrants. And a new decision is also to be made about the location.
Container accommodation in Taufkirchen: Opinion should be possible
A local resident had previously started an online petition on the www.change.org platform, fueling sentiment against the refugee shelter. According to David Grothe (Greens), the petition was also posted on sites close to right-wing groups and thus also attracted signatories from the right-wing corner.
The discussion in the municipal council meeting was followed by numerous citizens. Across all political groups, the Councils sought a constructive debate. "It must be possible to express one's opinion without being immediately put in the brown corner," Sander said. However, it must also be clear that people in "precarious situations" will be helped.
Container accommodation in Taufkirchen: "Nobody makes a decision lightly"
"There is no one in this municipal council who makes this decision easy," said Maike Vatheuer-Seele (FDP). Together with the Free Voters, she had requested that the planned container facility at the Karwendelstraße site be examined instead of by post. This motion was rejected by a large majority of 5:18.
Main reasons: Too poor connections, location between the recycling center and the motorway, problems on the way to school. "I don't think this place is at all suitable for accommodating people," said Gabi Zaglauer-Swoboda (Greens).
Container accommodation in Taufkirchen: Three locations possible
"Everything that is new scares people," said Hildegard Riedmaier (CSU), bringing up the already tried and tested location of the festival grounds. Provided that you can continue to celebrate festivals there. Herbert Heigl (SPD) proposed the property between the Integra daycare center and the parking lot north of Köglweg – there, however, the ownership structure would first have to be clarified.

In addition to these two possible locations, the tennis courts on Postweg will also continue to be discussed for the container village – but the municipality's own tennis court north of the original area is also to be included. Goal: More space, fewer floors, conflict-free and relaxed coexistence in the complex.
Container accommodation in Taufkirchen: "Forces I don't want to have anything to do with"
"As a municipal councillor, I live closest to the postal route," said Deputy Mayor Michael Lilienthal (FW). He did not vote against the postal service. He doesn't want to "stand as a frontman for forces I don't want to have anything to do with."
That's what happened to many. The effort for objectivity, unity and humanism dominated the discussion. "I think it's very good how we are discussing here," said Rudi Schwab (Greens) at the end of the two-hour discussion. Three locations now remain in the running: Festwiese, Postweg and the area south of the Integra daycare center on Köglweg. The ball is now in the district office's court.
