In a few days, the time has come: The 71st Olching Folk Festival will be opened. Visitors can look forward to a number of new features. And: At 10.40 euros, the Mass is cheaper than elsewhere.

Olching – The Olching Folk Festival enjoys great popularity even outside the district, which is emphasized again and again. But folk festival consultant Andreas Hörl does not want to rest on his laurels. "We want to offer something new every year so that it always remains varied." This year, a little more action is announced, after it was a bit quieter and nostalgic last year due to corona.

These are the new rides

There are, for example, the rides that have their premiere on the Olching fairground. "Jumanji" invites you on an adventurous journey into the labyrinth of magic. Optical illusions and obstacles await you here, which promise a lot of fun.

Thrills are also guaranteed on the 35-metre-high "Bayern Star" chain plane with a perfect view of the city. If you like the breakdancer, you'll love "The Real Shake": Here, the gondolas are not only whirled around vertically in a circle, but they also rotate around their own axis. "We're really stepping on the gas here this year," promises Volksfest consultant Hörl.

Here, too, beer has become more expensive

This year, the festival hall of the Freising landlord family Widmann has been given a new face. This brings Oktoberfest flair to the Volksfestplatz: The front is reminiscent of the hacker tent at the Oktoberfest. It looks like you can look into the tent through a window.

However, the price explosions do not stop at the Olching folk festival. The Mass Maisacher now costs 9.60 euros instead of the previous 10.40. "But this makes us the cheapest in the district," Hörl emphasizes. And: The amount is very user-friendly, in contrast to about 10.80 euros, which the Brucker had to fork out.

Well positioned in terms of staff

Speaking of waitresses: "We are in the fortunate situation that the landlord has no personnel problems," explains the folk festival officer. After all, he pays very well.

The city is not skimping either: At the senior citizens' afternoon, there will continue to be a free mass and half a chicken for all Olching residents aged 65 and over. Four members of the city council and city hall staff help with the distribution of the stamps so that everything runs smoothly on the day.

Hörl, head of the Volksfest organisation, is particularly looking forward to one experiment: the country evening on Friday, 9 June. The beer benches are moved to the side to make room for a line dance. "Let's see how this is received. But it's something different."

The organizing team is looking forward to a band that will also make its debut in Olching: the Alpenoberkrainer (Thursday, June 8, 19 to 23 p.m.). Otherwise, cult bands and local celebrities such as Nachtstark or the performers perform.

Old acquaintance at the start of the cabaret

An old acquaintance will introduce the folk festival days: cabaret artist Django Asül. He will present his program "Open Visor" the evening before at 20 p.m. (admission from 18 p.m.). Tickets are available for 20 euros in advance at Jeans House, Sparkasse, Treffpunkt Wagner or Rathaus.

The last time, in 2016, the artist apparently liked it a lot. "We sat together until midnight. The man is great anyway," enthuses Hörl. The only problem was that he had decimated the supply of non-alcoholic wheat beer very significantly.

The official tapping is as usual on Friday, June 2, by Mayor Andreas Magg. The next day, the parade will walk through the city with probably 2000 participants. "Saturday is better, it's more relaxed for everyone," explains Hörl. And the folk festival is supposed to be enjoyment above all.

By the way: There will also be a wheat beer carousel again this year.
