At a border control in Upper Bavaria, the federal police rescued nine puppies from a small box. They were now taken to an animal shelter.

The federal police border control between Germany and Austria took place on Tuesday, May 23, near Marktl in the district of Altötting. As the authorities announced on Friday, May 26, they searched a car with a Hungarian license plate. In the trunk of the car, the officers then found the boxes with the nine puppies.

The driver and his passenger were able to identify themselves, but did not show any papers for the puppies during the check. According to the information, the small four-legged friends of different breeds were locked up in three unsecured and dirty boxes. They would have shown clear signs of anxiety and stress.

Quarantine for the puppies: police handed them over to the animal office

The federal police informed the responsible veterinary office and seized the puppies after the inspection in Marktl. The previous owners now have to answer for a violation of the Animal Welfare Act.
