The statue is inspired by a photo that Clarín photojournalist Marcelo Carroll took on December 9, 2018 in Madrid, in which Gallardo is seen with the Copa Libertadores trophy in his hands on the field of play of the Santiago Bernabéu after the victory in the final against Boca.
Hundreds of fans arrived at the event to witness the moment when the flesh and blood Gallardo discovers and leaves his replica in sight, which recreates that unforgettable moment at the Santiago Bernabéu.
A while before the work was unveiled, the first photo of the creation was released on social networks.

In the previous one, Gallardo was reunited with Marcelo Salas, the Matador, who traveled especially to be present at the celebration. Juanfer Quintero, currently in Colombia, and other former companions of the Doll were also present. Before the official ceremony, his replacement Martin Demichelis held a talk of a few minutes.
The statue, which is already located at the door of the club's museum next to that of Ángel Labruna, measures more than 7 meters and weighs 6.3 tons. It was built with the bronze provided by the fans, mainly disused keys.
