Holzlandvolksfest: In one fell swoop is ozapft

Highlights: Holzlandvolksfest in Hohenpolding is a folk festival for thousands of guests. Organized by a 16-member, volunteer festival committee. Food is the priority of the festival committee, with a young chef at Gasthaus zur Linde. The first day is always difficult when you have to serve 1400 people at once, but otherwise it's relaxed, says Veit Rauschuber, 30-year-old chef. The festival is traditionally framed by the Holzland brass band, followed by three days of celebration.

Routine is a folk festival for thousands of guests, organized by a 16-member, volunteer festival committee never. But well-rehearsed, reliable organizers and helpers make themselves felt and they gave the start of the Holzlandvolksfest in Hohenpolding a sure signature.

Hohenpolding – With an exemplary unerring hand, the starting signal was also given after the multiple salute shots of the Holzland firecrackers and the departure of the clubs, guests of honour and citizens: Although it was the first beer tapping at a folk festival for Mayor Alfons Beilhack, the first blow was so precise that only a second knocker was needed to secure it. It was not to be seen that a single drop would have gone wrong, "it would also be a shame for the good beer," Beilhack said later with a laugh.

The right dishes came from young but already proven hands: "Food is our priority - Veit Rauschhuber has to do that," said Lambert Forster, head of the festival committee and chairman of FC Hohenpolding, about the 30-year-old chef at Gasthaus zur Linde. He had already taken over the catering in 2018, at the last Hohenpoldinger Holzlandvolksfest, in cooperation with the butcher's shop Birkmeier from Altfraunhofen.

"The first day is always difficult when you have to serve 1400 people at once, but otherwise it's relaxed," said Veit Rauschuber after the first rush for the classics gyro plate and shish kebab pan was over. 30 helpers support him on each of the five days of the festival, most of them members of FC Hohenpolding.

He will fry a whole ton of fries in 200 litres of oil, according to the calculation: "If people continue to eat like this, it may not be enough," Rauschuber thought on the first evening, the Day of Businesses, Clubs and Neighbourhoods. This, which was traditionally framed by the Holzland brass band, is followed by three days of celebration with the party bands d'Moosner, i-Düpferl and Tetrapack, before the day of the water association fills the marquee again on Whit Monday.

The 30 by 45 meters, which tent rental company Ralf Stangl and volunteers from the sports club have set up on the fairground, which was specially created five years ago, is followed by a beer garden, which creates another 1280 outdoor seats in addition to the 500. The area in front of it, with shooting range and lottery booth, was used in the best weather mainly by the youngest visitors, the children's carousel thrilled until the evening hours.

"This is not too big and not too small, so it's just right to create a personal atmosphere," said Lukas FLor from Erding, who had come to Hohenpolding with friends. He gave the festival the title "griabig" and was happy about the many acquaintances he was able to make in a short time.

Coming together and conviviality is also the main concern of the organizers, Lambert Forster himself was already looking forward to the many acquaintances who had not been met for a long time.

"It's good for the head when you hear other opinions while ratcheting," he said shortly before his acceptance speech to the many participants, above all the 750 FCH members, of whom "none is there who has no task".
