Being personally surprised by Kate Middleton was a real highlight for the students of a picnic at the Chelsea Flower Show. It turned out to be an exciting interview for the princess.

London – A beaming Kate Middleton (41) made a surprise visit to the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show in London on Monday and unexpectedly joined children from ten different primary schools who were picnicking on a lawn next to the stands. The meeting under a large horse chestnut tree is part of an initiative that aims to bring children closer to gardening and nature.

For several years, Princess Kate has been passionately committed to nature and gardening

In order to spontaneously sweeten the schoolchildren's participation in the royal Horticultural Society's campaign for school gardening, an enchanting princess in a pink shirt silk dress dream from ME+EM (645 euros) in wedges (Castañer, 138 euros) and golden fern leaf earrings (Catherine Zoraida, 190 euros) surprised the astonished kids, especially since she not only looked great, but also had time in her luggage.

At one point, a young boy from Alex Reed Academy raised his hand — just like in the classroom — to ask Kate a question. "They were all so polite," one teacher initially praised. But between strawberry and insect talk, the wife of the heir to the throne Prince William (40) was soon fully in her element. It wasn't long before Middleton was bombarded with questions. "What's it like to be a royal?" a little girl asked. Disbelieving eyes at Kate's answer that you have to "work hard". "Do you make the laws"? "No," Kate smiled before replying, "The Prime Minister makes the laws."

Royals have autograph ban

If you ever come across a royal and ask for an autograph, they will politely decline the request. Because what is quite normal for musicians, actors, athletes and other public figures is forbidden for them. The reason: there are security concerns. After all, anyone who gets their hands on an autograph and has bad intentions could forge the signature and cause considerable damage. However, entries in golden books and the like are permitted.

Princess Kate's cunning interpretation of the rules is well received by children

Accustomed to being besieged, the mum-of-three patiently shared what the best thing about her job is – "meeting kids like you" – and also revealed which everyday task she is unfortunately not allowed to do. Because, of course, the children were eager to have a souvenir from their VIP meeting and asked Kate to sign their sketches. But for security reasons, autographs and selfies are a royal no-go.

But the Princess of Wales has long since come up with a clever solution for exactly these moments: "My name is Catherine. I'm not allowed to write my signature, it's just one of those rules," she explained, and because such an answer is not the crowning glory for children, the clever Kate drew a flower for seven-year-old Ruby, a tree for the next girl and a pond for a third child. A little crash course in farm etiquette can never hurt. Sources used: dailymail.co.uk, people.com
