More security guards, cameras, cleanliness and the U.S. military police. This is provided for in the new security concept for Nuremberg Central Station.
Nuremberg – A new security concept is intended to ensure, among other things, more police presence and cleanliness at Nuremberg Central Station. It includes more cameras and U.S. military police patrols. This was agreed upon by representatives of the state and federal police, Deutsche Bahn, city advertising and Marcus König, Nuremberg's mayor.
Nuremberg Central Station is considered one of the most dangerous train stations in Germany. In 2022, the third highest number of violent crimes at a German train station was registered there. Second place goes to Hanover Central Station, and at the top is Hamburg Central Station.
U.S. military police in Nuremberg: Response to soldiers' dispute
"The top priority is to have more presence at the main station," said König. Regular focus operations should further increase the presence, promises Gernot Rochholz, Vice President of the Middle Franconia Police Headquarters. The involvement of the U.S. military police is a response to an incident when U.S. soldiers and federal police clashed.
In January, a dispute between three U.S. soldiers escalated at Nuremberg's main train station. When federal police officers intervened to separate them, the U.S. soldiers attacked them. Nine officers eventually overpowered the three U.S. soldiers. The U.S. military police are expected to be on duty and patrol at the main station only on weekends.

"We will potentiate the positive effect of this visibility through external support, joint patrols with the state police and through intensified coordination with Deutsche Bahn and all other partners in and around Nuremberg Central Station," explained Albert Blersch, Head of the Federal Police Inspectorate Nuremberg.

More staff and cameras: Deutsche Bahn and city advertising increase
As part of the implementation of the new security concept, more cameras are to be installed in Nuremberg Central Station and around the site. There are currently 193 surveillance cameras active in the main station and 27 cameras around the building. The use of video surveillance is to be continuously optimized and expanded, as Police Vice President Gernot Rochholz explained. There will also be more state and federal police officers patrolling the main train station. Deutsche Bahn also wants to deploy more security personnel on the platforms and in the building.

Finally, the mezzanine floor of Nuremberg's main train station is to be made cleaner. This is the intention of Katja Strohhacker, managing director of Stadtreklame. For them, cleanliness plays an important role in citizens' sense of security. In the new security concept, it provides for regular cleaning and adequate lighting of the floor. It is not known when the innovations will be realized.
