Long traffic jams are expected to occur over the Whitsun weekend. Especially in Bavaria, the motorways will be overloaded. The ADAC lists the routes with the highest risk of congestion.
Munich – The planned holiday on the Whitsun weekend could be delayed a bit for many. The ADAC expects a large wave of travel in Bavaria and warns of long traffic jams. Bavarian motorists will also be slowed down by several construction sites in the coming days.

Less traffic jams on Monday: You should avoid these routes
The ADAC expects the biggest traffic disruptions on Friday (26 May), Saturday (27 May) and Monday (29 May). On Sunday (28 May), the traffic situation on the highways should become comparatively more relaxed. Due to the beginning of the Whitsun holidays and the long weekend, the ADAC assumes a particularly high risk of traffic jams in southern Germany. According to the ADAC, in 2022 the Friday before Pentecost was the third most congested day of the year.
Throughout Germany, many routes and motorways will be heavily congested over the long weekend. The ADAC has published a list of which routes are affected. For the greater Munich area, a traffic jam warning is in effect for the coming days.

Especially at the border with Austria and on the way to and from Italy, there may be longer waiting times. In Tyrol, traffic jam alternative routes will be closed to through traffic along the A12 in the areas of Kufstein and Innsbruck in the coming days. Above all, the Brenner motorway is described by the ADAC as the main bottleneck. Many construction sites and construction projects, such as the new construction of the Ahrental Bridge, cause longer traffic jams on the motorway.
