Pope Francis did not receive visitors on Friday "due to his health," Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni told a journalist who asked why no meetings were on his daily schedule. Bruni said the 86-year-old pope was suffering from a fever, but did not provide further details about his health or clarify whether he would be able to receive guests in the coming days.
However, the events planned for the Pope in the coming weeks will take place as usual. Tomorrow, he is due to preside over a Pentecost Mass in St. Peter's Square, and on Monday to welcome Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Vatican. In addition, earlier this week it was announced that Francis is expected to fly to Portugal for an official visit in early August. There he will attend World Youth Day and visit a temple in the city of Fátima, where the image of the Virgin Mary was allegedly rediscovered in front of three children a century ago.

Pope Francis, who took office 10 years ago, lost part of his lung in surgery he underwent as a young man in his native Argentina. In 2021, he was hospitalized for the first time on duty, when he underwent surgery to remove part of his colon.
