Senior physics professor vs. Netanyahu: "Turning us into a third world country" | Israel Hayom

Prof. Elam Gross, a senior physicist at the Weizmann Institute, published a harsh Facebook post on Saturday attacking Prime Minister Netanyahu for advancing the legal reform, claiming that for the first time in his life he was denied entry to a laboratory in the United States.

"Netanyahu finally succeeded," Prof. Gross wrote. "Finally, the sabotage of Israel's standing in the world has succeeded and we have been downgraded to the status of a third world country. What did he think would happen when he put a thug in charge of the atom in the State of Israel? A position once held by a physics professor, a genius who did not complain of deprivation.

"For over thirty years I have been a free visitor to the national physics laboratories in the United States. SLAC, FERMILAB I have colleagues and friends there. For the first time in my life, my entry to the lab was delayed (I guess and hope it works out because I'm already on the plane). But I wanted to say a special thank you to Netanyahu and his friends and supporters who are succeeding in turning Israel into a third world country. Is there anyone else here who thinks the visa program will be implemented?

"What else needs to happen for you to understand that our country is in the midst of an international isolation process? And don't say you don't care. If it has already reached science, tomorrow they will not sell us weapons. So thank you to Netanyahu and his government and to the genius minister in charge of the atom. Thank you for lowering Israel to the status of a sensitive country, a third world country."

Gross also attached the reply he received in an email from a senior laboratory official in the US: "I regret to say that access to your Fermilab website has not yet been approved. I've spent the last few days chasing people and speeding things up, but it seems that right now it's stuck with counterintelligence, because of the DOE's perception of Israel as a 'sensitive' country."
