"We hope that our protest is no longer needed. That your government acts in accordance with the Constitution. That all the new people who are currently flocking to the Last Generation no longer consider it necessary to make sit-ins," the Last Generation continues. The group had announced on Friday that it would initially rely on demonstrations instead of road blockades. For Wednesday, she called for participation in nationwide protest marches. As an intermediate goal for the coming week, it has set itself the goal of organizing weekly protest marches with over 100 participants in several cities.
Last generation announces end of protests on one condition
At the same time, the Last Generation announced an end to its protest as soon as the federal government convenes a so-called social council to plan the end of the use of fossil fuels in Germany by 2030 - a core demand of the group. It has been blocking major roads in many cities since the beginning of 2022. With its protest, the group wants to denounce climate policy deficits - for example, with regard to the immense climate-damaging emissions from car traffic.
Since the searches of members on Wednesday, the website of the Last Generation continues to indicate that it has been blocked in the course of investigations by the Bavarian LKA. In connection with the investigation, there is also the accusation that donations to the Last Generation could be punishable.
"We know that a social council is now the best chance for the population, so that we can still maintain freedom, democracy, the rule of law and an appropriate level of prosperity," writes the organization on Twitter - and in the course of this is now collecting donations for the "Initiative Gesellschaftsrat Jetzt".
Last generation: Calling for action on climate change is not a "serious crime"
Police and prosecutors had proceeded on Wednesday with a raid against the last generation. Around 170 officers searched 15 apartments and business premises in seven federal states, according to the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office. The raid was criticized by many as disproportionate.
