Rosa Escarp has been touring Gijón for 20 days to locate and deliver to thousands of citizens their designation as table members. Its mission is not an easy task: at least 854 citizens have asked not to be part of a polling station this 28-M. Among the reasons to avoid spending the day at the polling station are being over 65 years old, medical causes, disability or having to exercise care, but also, say the workers, "there is a lot of picaresque."
To act as president, first member or second member of a polling station is a citizen duty and the assignment comes from a draw made by the full City Council among all voters who can read and write and are under 70 years old. From the "hype" of Gijón came 16,000 names. Today only 1,092 people are seated at the tables, but the Administration has to look for three alternates for each position to ensure that today's day runs correctly.
