National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir filed a defamation suit against Defense Minister and former IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon on Sunday, demanding NIS 200,2019 in damages. During an interview with Haaretz, he allegedly attributed death calls to Otzma Yehudit to Arabs, "as if the prosecutor supports this idea," according to the prosecution. Ben-Gvir also claims that Ya'alon attributed racist terms to him.

This is another lawsuit by Ben-Gvir against politicians for statements and allegations against him. For example, in <>, MK Avigdor Lieberman hinted in an interview that Ben-Gvir was an ISA agent, and in response was sued by him for a quarter of a million shekels. A few months ago, the Minister of National Security withdrew the lawsuit after reaching an out-of-court settlement with Yisrael Beiteinu.

Two months ago, Ben-Gvir informed the court that he was withdrawing a lawsuit against the police, which he claimed violated his immunity and freedom of movement, after banning him from marching at Damascus Gate one May day in 2022. The minister also withdrew his demand for compensation of NIS 200,<>. "Under the circumstances, it would be appropriate to withdraw the letter of claim," Ben-Gvir said.

The lawsuit was filed in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court in May last year by Ben-Gvir and the Otzma Yehudit faction, which prevented them from holding the flag march they initiated towards the Western Wall through Damascus Gate. According to the lawsuit, when he arrived with his activists at Tzahal Square near the Old City, Ben-Gvir was blocked by the police and his passage to Damascus Gate was prevented.
