Los Angeles / Recklinghausen – On Thursday evening, the TV audience was spoilt for choice. While on ProSieben up-and-coming models competed for a picture of chief juror Heidi Klum (49) in the quarterfinals of "Germany's Next Topmodel", the film adaptation of Hape Kerkeling's (58) biography "The boy must go to the fresh air" ran on ZDF. In the battle for the odds, there was a clear winner.
Heidi Klum vs. Hape Kerkeling: Who makes the odds race?
On Sundays, the ZDF television garden regularly competes in a ratings duel against "Immer wieder sonntags" on ARD. On Thursday evening, on the other hand, unequal opponents met: The casting show "Germany's Next Tomodel" with Heidi Klum on ProSieben and the sensitive film adaptation of Hape Kerkeling's autobiographical novel "Der Junge muss an die Frische Luft" on ZDF could hardly be more different. This is also reflected in the odds.
As can be seen from the dwdl.de number center, "Germany's Next Top Model" reached 14.49 percent among the target group of 16- to 3-year-olds, but still lags behind the values of the first episodes, which had even cracked the 20 percent mark. "The boy has to go out into the fresh air" brought it to 10.2 percent in this younger target group, making it GNTM's first prime-time follower. In terms of the overall audience, however, the ZDF film even beats the casting show by far.
Which number of spectators set the record in Germany?
On 13 July 2014, ARD made television history: the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina (1-0 a.e.t.) was watched by an estimated 34.65 million people on their own television sets. Crazy: People who watched the game at public viewing or in bars, for example, were not included in this count. The actual number is therefore likely to be considerably higher.
Kerkeling film "The Boy Must Go to the Fresh Air" is a huge winner among the overall audience
A whopping 4.07 million people tuned in to "Der Junge muss an die frische Luft" (The Boy Must Go to the Fresh Air), giving ZDF a rating of 17.2 percent of the total audience. On the other hand, "Germany's Next Top Model" was only able to attract 1.37 million viewers in front of the TV. This means a quota of 6.6 percent for ProSieben in the total audience.
