Highlights: This edition of the Cannes Film Festival left its guests more satisfied than in recent opportunities. There were mega presences of stars, the level of the films in competition was good up -with exceptions- and if it were not for the intermittent rain, everything would have shone. If everything concludes at last, this edition of the Cannes Film Festival left its guests more satisfied than in recent opportunities. The Palmares did not offend anyone this time, there were mega presences of stars, the level of the films in competition was good up -with exceptions- and if it were not for the intermittent rain, everything would have shone.

At the film level, in the competition there was a clear imbalance between the established authors and already accustomed to Cannes -Ken Loach, Wim Wenders, Nanni Moretti, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Marco Bellocchio, and a new generation, with Justine Triet and Jonathan Glazer at the head.

After the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, where Anatomie d'une chut, by French director Justine Triet, won the Palme d'Or – the third time in 76 years that a director has received it – all the guests either stayed to see Elements, the animated film by Pixar, closing film, or went to different parties. Damián Szifron, who was part of the Jury and did not speak a single word to the press, went through three. Or at least, that's what he remembers.

In one of them, in the Plage des Palmes, there is no one who does not have a drink in his hand. Huge tents were set up on the beach, with the water of the Mediterranean just there, because the beaches are short. There are even huge cushions lying on a little mountain of sand, and a dance floor that at about 2 AM was impossible to enter.

At the end of the party, you can see how they are already removing the hooks that held together the fences that surrounded the Croisette, the coastal boulevard. It was definitely the last night of the Festival, and Cannes, the city of 75,000 inhabitants, was back to normal.

This 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival did not leave many very upset, as it had happened the previous two years, when they won the Palme d'Or Titane, by Julia Ducournau, and The Triangle of Sadness, by Ruben Östlund, member of the Jury and president of the same this year, respectively.

Moments with Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford and a bus

If we review, there were some moments that by themselves deserve to be in a Palmares of memories.

Everything had started with Johnny Depp. The star, who a year ago starred in one of his media trials with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, was received with displays of fanaticism at the Opening of the Festival. And here he presented a bodriazo, Jeanne du Barry, at the inauguration. He was categorical at the press conference regarding whether he felt boycotted by Hollywood. "No, because I don't think about Hollywood," he said.

The post is passed from parents to daughters. Just as Johnny Depp was at the opening, and Ethan Hawke, a day later, with Strange Way of Life, Pedro Almodóvar's 30-minute gay western, the daughters of both also passed through the Festival. Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Depp, was on Monday, in the premiere of the first two episodes of the series The Idol, and Maya Ray Thurman-Hawke, daughter of Ethan and Uma Thurman (who was at the opening) presented Asteroid City.

We already told what that party of The Idol was, with The Weeknd as DJ and Lily-Rose dancing with the few guests, including the envoy of Clarín.

The image wasn't made too public, but seeing Asteroid City director Wes Anderson arrive at the Palais des festivals on a bus was eye-catching. The filmmaker did it with part of his team that came here, including the aforementioned Maya Hawke, plus Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston and Adrien Brody. They left aside the black official cars of BMW – sponsor this year of the Festival – directly to the red carpet.

Right there, days later, those who had not yet seen Il Sol dell' avvenire, by Nanni Moretti, did not understand what the Italian director and his actors were doing spinning, spinning like a spinning top on the red carpet. It has to do with the final scene of the movie.

Earlier, Harrison Ford had received a surprise Palme d'Or of honor, the night of the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate, at the Sala Lumière. A day later, in his meeting with the international press, the usually spare, but likeable, actor of Witness in Peril and the Star Wars saga, responded to a comment, more than a question, from an Australian journalist, that she still found him "hot".

"I was blessed with this body," was the response of Ford, 80. Things that only happen in Cannes.
