Firefighters stuck in traffic

2023-05-28T16:51:52.386Z

Highlights: The traffic jam in Starnberg is becoming an even bigger problem for the fire brigades. The situation is likely to worsen due to the full closure of Münchner Straße at the end of August. The fire brigade does not have the staff for this, especially not with full-time staff. At least during the day, it should not be possible to rely on smaller weirs in the area such as Percha or Kempfenhausen, says district fire officer Helmut Schweickart.

The permanent traffic jam in Starnberg, currently mainly due to the construction of the railway bridge, is increasingly becoming an even bigger problem for the fire brigades than it already was.

Starnberg - On Thursday evening, Commander Markus Grasl had the Leutstetten fire brigade additionally alerted because the Starnberg activists hardly came to the tool shed. Fortunately, it was not a big fire: A home smoke detector in Perca had sounded the alarm because the resident of the apartment had let her food burn on the stove. The people of Leutstetten did not have to intervene.

The situation is likely to worsen due to the full closure of Münchner Straße at the end of August. Markus Grasl thinks it makes sense to keep the equipment shed staffed during this time, but the fire brigade does not have the staff for this, especially not with full-time staff. The closure is "a harbinger of tunnel construction" and does not come as a surprise. As is so often the case, Grasl refers to the fire brigade requirements plan, which provides for full-time employees.

The problem is the aid periods, i.e. the time between the emergency call and the arrival of the rescuers. If the active members are slow to get to the tool shed because they are stuck in traffic, the fire brigade will also be deployed later. The problem is not new, says district fire officer Helmut Schweickart: in the morning from the direction of the forest playground, in the late afternoon from the direction of Percha. Schweickart was at a meeting on the full closure this week and wants to consult with the fire brigades as to whether and what can be done. At least during the day, it should not be possible to rely on smaller weirs in the area such as Percha or Kempfenhausen, because they have so few personnel during the day that they cannot move out.
