For the third time in two months – another shooting incident in Gilboa: This afternoon (Sunday) we received a report of hearing gunshots in the area of Gan Ner. After searching, hits were identified in a house in the community and a bullet was found, no casualties.
IDF forces are searching the area for suspects.
A statement issued by the Gilboa Regional Council to residents stated: "An unusual incident in Gan Ner.
We are updated about an unusual incident in Gan Ner, which began in the early afternoon when gunfire was heard in the community. The town's alert team under the command of the CSC was dispatched, and a report was issued to the Israel Police and the IDF. The security forces that arrived at the community and carried out significant searches in and near the community.
The security forces estimate that the sounds of gunfire came from the nearby Palestinian Authority (an aerial line about two kilometers from Gan Ner). We emphasize that there are no special instructions for residents of Gan Ner or other communities near the fence in Gilboa. We will add and update as needed."
Yaniv Ben Shimol, chief of staff of Gan Ner, said that after the shooting: "Unfortunately, we continue to experience an escalation that is reflected in various arson attacks that began after the incident a few weeks ago and have now continued shooting at a house in the community. We expect the Defense Ministry that just as we do not abandon the residents of the region, so they will not abandon us. We are tired of being nothing more than a "security component." The Rashbatz must not continue to be Israel's punching bag."
This was the third shooting incident in the past two months in which shots were fired at Gilboa communities. At the beginning of April, shots were fired from Jilabun at Kibbutz Ma'ale Gilboa, and no injuries or casualties were identified. And about a week later, shots were fired from the direction of Jenin at the community of Merav. Then damage was identified in one of the houses in the community.
