From Munich to Croatia: This is how much toll it costs to travel to Split

Croatia is very popular with many holidaymakers. With its long coastline and offshore islands, the small country on the Mediterranean Sea offers a wide range of destinations – and usually very pleasant weather. With regard to the holiday budget, it is also important to include not only the fuel costs, but also the tolls, of which there are many on the route.

Toll costs on the way to Croatia: In Austria you need a "sticker"

How much does it cost to travel to Croatia, taking into account vignettes, route tolls and tunnel use? As an example, we have chosen Munich as the starting point and Split as our destination. If you drive to a closer destination, you will get off a little cheaper, because the toll in Croatia – which is to be switched to the e-vignette in 2024 – is route-related. Of course, it always depends on the route: We chose the route via Salzburg and Ljubljana.

The first toll is due in Austria on the journey to Croatia. The cheapest solution would be the 10-day vignette for 9.90 euros. However, if you want to go on holiday longer, you should bear in mind that 9.90 euros will be due again on the return journey. But that's not all, after all, there are numerous passes and tunnels in Austria that cost extra. On the way to Croatia, 13.50 euros are due for the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels, as well as 7.80 euros for the Karawanken tunnel, which connects Austria and Slovenia.

From Munich to Split: In Slovenia, motorists must purchase a vignette

In Slovenia, a vignette is also required. For a car, this costs 15 euros with a validity of seven days – but since most people will probably stay longer on vacation, the 1-month vignette for 30 euros is worth it. Then you don't have to buy a new vignette on the way back.

Holiday trip to Split: In Croatia, the toll is calculated by kilometers

In Croatia, motorists have to pay a route-based toll. So if you drive further, you pay more. According to the ADAC toll calculator, this is around 20 euros from the border to Split. If you add everything up, you will have to pay at least 66 euros for a single trip. On the way home, of course, you are not spared the toll payments. For the complete journey from Munich to Split and back, you have to expect at least 132 euros in tolls.
