A boat carrying more than two dozen people capsized Sunday on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy, according to RAI's Lombardy branch. Twenty people were rescued. But a 53-year-old man did not survive, according to a Mediaset website.
All the passengers, apparently a group of foreign tourists partying, ended up in the waters of the lake, many reportedly managed to save themselves by swimming to shore or other boats. Three people were hospitalized. Divers and a helicopter are searching for "several missing people," according to firefighters. he added.
A video from the fire brigade, published by the website of the daily Corriere della Sera, shows the helicopter flying over rough waters, where chairs and other debris floated.
Lake Maggiore, which lies in the south of the Alps, is the second largest lake in Italy and a popular tourist destination.
