A tourist boat carrying more than two dozen people capsized Sunday on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy, with several passengers still missing in the evening, firefighters said. Nineteen people were rescued after the boat overturned off Lisanza, fire brigade spokesman Luca Cari told AFP.
Divers and a helicopter are searching for "several missing people," he added. A video from the fire brigade, published by the website of the daily Corriere della Sera, shows the helicopter flying over rough waters, where chairs and other debris floated.
The accident was caused by bad weather, according to Corriere della Sera. Lake Maggiore, which lies in the south of the Alps, is the second largest lake in Italy and a popular tourist destination.
