Since their rebirth in Athens in 1896 thanks to Pierre de Coubertin, the Olympic Games have been the most publicized event on the planet. Their scope goes beyond the field of sport and has a historical dimension. The Games thus served as the banner of Spain's democratic transition in Barcelona in 1992. They have been instrumentalized by totalitarian regimes to display their superiority over democracies, in Berlin in 1936 or in Beijing in 2008 and 2022. They were the scene of the Black Power claim in Mexico City in 1968 and became the epicenter of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with the Munich tragedy in 1972. They embodied the risks of the bubble economy, contributing to the ruin of Greece with the Athens Games in 2004 that cost 13 billion euros or the fall of Brazil with the Rio 2016 Games that swallowed up more than 13 billion dollars, illustrating the incompetence and corruption of the state.
