Last week, the Nazareth Magistrate's Court accepted a financial claim by a woman who purchased a poodle dog for 9,500 shekels and discovered that she was of a different breed than the one she was promised.

Two years ago, the woman purchased a tiny "Toy" poodle after her previous dog passed away. She approached two dog dealers who placed an advertisement online and purchased the dog from them, after they introduced her as a "purebred woman without certificates" and promised to provide her parents' breed certificate.

Only a few months later, the woman noticed that the dog she had purchased had begun to grow larger than the breed "toy" dogs. She decided to give her a genetic test and discovered, according to her, that she had not been sold a purebred dog but a mixed breed dog. Because of this, the woman asked the two dealers to return her money, but they demanded that she return the dog to them. At that time, the woman decided to go to court and demanded compensation of NIS 25,000 from the two dealers, for emotional distress and legal expenses, in addition to the amount of money she originally paid for the dog.

The court accepted her claim, but ordered the two dealers to pay compensation of only NIS 7,000, after she failed to prove that she suffered real damage other than emotional distress, and because at the time of purchase she was not promised to provide her with breed certificates of the dog herself, but only of her parents.

Last month, a real estate agent from the United States adopted a dog that was supposed to be a mixed poodle, but grew and grew to weigh more than 30 pounds than it should have been when it was adopted. Kaylin Lee thought she was adopting a mixed poodle into her life, but the puppy Bentley became more like a horse or lion than the cute little poodle she thought she was taking into her life. It now weighs more than twice the size of an average poodle and also grows a large dog mane.

Kaylin was told by the breeder from whom she received the dog that he was a mixture of Australian Shepherd, Golden Retriever and Poodle, and that he would not weigh more than 22 kilograms. The 26-year-old recalls, "He was so small, he weighed less than a kilo when I adopted him. In his pictures as a puppy, you can see his black colors on his fur. He was such a cute, good puppy."
