The violent incident that took place this month in Gilboa and ended in murder was not nationalist-motivated, it emerged Sunday during a hearing on a police request to extend the detention of Denis Mukin, who shot and killed Diar Omari.
During the hearing at the Nazareth Magistrate's Court, the police investigator said that there was no suspicion of nationalist background that led to the shooting. He also noted that "not a single shred of evidence has been found that could indicate that the deceased has any nationalist background or any nationalist intent."
The police investigator's answer was made in response to a question from defense attorney Yuval Zemer about any indication that the police have of the victim's previous stay in Gan Ner or of any behavior on his part." At the previous hearing, Zemer claimed that Omri tried to snatch the gun from Mukin's hands during their confrontation.

Outside the courthouse, residents of Sandala, Omari's hometown, also held a demonstration today. The demonstrators demand justice and claim that Omri was shot dead just because he was an Arab. His family members shouted at Zemer that he should be ashamed of representing a "murderer."
After the hearing, Zemer said that "the prosecution has reached a situation where it has no choice and will file an indictment in a murder case, we will conduct a trial and it will not end this way [as a murder charge]." Mukin's detention was extended by Judge Manal Khalil-Diab for another week, with the agreement of the parties.
