After years of development, the first series of modern "Eitan" armored personnel carriers, developed in the IDF's technological brigade, arrived Sunday morning at the Bislach base in the south, where they will be used by Nahal Brigade fighters.

It has a 12 horsepower engine and is capable of reaching speeds of about 750 kilometers per hour. According to the IDF, it has high maneuverability even in urban areas and other challenging areas, and the ability to function continuously during several days of combat.

The armored personnel carriers have implemented state-of-the-art technological systems that include peripheral cameras that are effective even at night, calculation and front-end processing capabilities using advanced computers, touch monitors and processors that enable the operation of the lethal vehicle. In the near future, the "Arrow Spur" defense system will also be integrated into Eitan.

The APCs arrived after a training exercise held in the Nahal Brigade, in which a company of fighters practiced various scenarios alongside riding on the Eitan.

"This is an advanced wheeled combat vehicle, the first of its kind in the IDF, which enables other combat, including the movement of soldiers between combat sectors, at the level of tank protection," said Brig. Gen. Oren Giber, head of the Merkava Administration at the Ministry of Defense. The commander of the Nahal Brigade, Colonel Oren Simha, spoke about the importance of the APC in operational activity: "A tool that will change the face of the brigade and allow it to be more lethal, independent and protected."

Last week, Walla learned that the IDF will purchase about 20 new combat helicopters from the United States. By 2025, the IAF will gradually retire its 24 Patan helicopters, similar to other armies around the world. These helicopters will be replaced by the new US procurement fleet.

According to IDF sources, in the near future the security forces will be required to make decisions in accordance with the state budget, and to decide between several options on the agenda. The IDF will be able to purchase old Delta helicopters that have been retired by the US military and upgrade them, or alternatively purchase new Apache Echo helicopters. Another option is to wait and purchase "FARA" combat helicopters, which are still in production and will be ready only at the beginning of the next decade.
