The violence in Rosario does not stop. A 42-year-old man, brother of an Argentinos Juniors soccer player, was shot dead at the door of his home. This is José Sixto Torren, brother of defender Miguel Ángel Torren. It is the fourth homicide of a member of the player's family in the last 13 years.
The incident occurred around 21:30 p.m., on 27 de Febrero Boulevard at 7700, in the Godoy neighborhood. Four people on two motorcycles rang the bell at Torren, who went out to attend. At that moment, the killers shot and escaped.
The victim died in the place, where the investigators found five jacketed pods and three other served, which will be sent to expert, according to Telam spokesmen of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of the Second District.
Torren's crime is investigated by the prosecutor of the Intentional Homicide unit on duty, Patricio Saldutti, who ordered the Criminalistic Cabinet of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) to carry out the survey of the area of the fact, sketches, photographic expertise, taking testimonies from relatives, neighbors and people who can contribute data of interest to the investigation, and trail lifting.
For its part, the AIC Homicide Squad is carrying out tasks to determine the identity of the aggressors and the motivation for the attack.
According to a source from the Rosario Prosecutor's Office confirmed to Telam, José Sixto is the fourth brother of Argentinos Juniors defender Miguel Ángel Torrén (34), who was the victim of a homicide in Rosario in the last 13 years.
The first was Walter Torrén (32), killed in April 2010, when he was shot in the back while playing a soccer match at a tournament in the Toba neighborhood, located in the southwest area of Rosario.
A decade later, in May 2020, Gabriel Torrén (34) was murdered, who received a beating that caused his death, after a fight with two of his brothers-in-law, according to who was the victim's partner.
The third brother of the footballer who died victim of a homicide was Luis Torrén (43), who died after being hospitalized in serious condition for several days after being shot three times in the abdomen and chest, in September 2021.
Luis had been seriously injured on August 25 of that year, when he was attacked while walking along the sidewalk of Puerto Argentino Street at 4200 in the city of Rosario.
The footballer, a native of the Santa Fe city of Villa Constitución, located 55 kilometers south of Rosario, debuted as a defender in Newell's Old Boys in 2005.
During his years in Rosario, he lived with his family in the Las Flores neighborhood, located at the southern end of Rosario, which extends east of the entrance to the city on the highway to Buenos Aires.
The defender, who was South American runner-up with the Argentina U20 team in 2007, played for Cerro Porteño in Paraguay and since 2010 has played for Argentinos Juniors.
Miguel Torrén did not travel this weekend to the province of Córdoba, where Argentinos Juniors will play against Talleres for the Professional Football League, because he is injured, sources from the club in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of La Paternal reported.
On the other hand, the spokesmen indicated that the homicide of José Sixto Torrén is the 129th registered in the Rosario department in 2023, the most violent in the history of the city of Santa Fe, according to official data.
On Friday, at least two young men were shot dead ten minutes apart in attacks across the city.
The first of them was Brian Nahuel Orellano (23), shot dead at the intersection of Ayacucho and Estado de Israel streets, in the La Bajada neighborhood, a block and a half from the birthplace of Lionel Messi, in the southeast of the city.
Ten minutes later, Nicolás Agustín Agüero (24) was stabbed and then shot in different parts of the body in Rodríguez and Juan Canals streets, in the Itatí neighborhood, in the southwest zone, and died at the Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital (HECA), where he was transferred by relatives and neighbors.
