After a day of joy, sadness deeply invades Lionel Messi's Paris Saint Germain. It is that this Sunday, less than 24 hours after the entire squad was celebrating the consecration as champion of the French League, the accident on horseback of the Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico left him hospitalized "in serious condition", after suffering a fall in Huelva, his hometown in the region of Andalusia.
"Sergio fell off a horse. He is in serious condition," a PSG spokesman told French news agency AFP. On Saturday, Rico was on the substitutes' bench in the Parisian side's win over Racing Strasbourg, with a goal from Messi, which secured a new star.
The Spanish newspaper Marca, meanwhile, reported that the usually summoned for the Spanish National Team is in a "stable" situation.
Sergio Rico, after the consecration, moved to El Rocío, where these days his pilgrimage is celebrated, and it was on Sunday morning when he suffered the mishap that forced his rapid transfer to the Virgen del Rocío hospital.
His admission was for a "cranioencephalic trauma" and arrived "by helicopter" to the health center, where he was hospitalized under "respiratory assistance," reported the Andalusian public television Canal Sur.
The Spanish agency EFE reported that, according to the player's environment, Rico did not fall from a horse, but received a kick from one of the animals participating in the pilgrimage.
Rico arrived at PSG in 2019 from Sevilla, where he shared the squad with several Argentines, and since then he played 29 games with the Parisian team, although he almost always had a substitute role, first of the Costa Rican Keylor Navas and since last season of the Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma.
For that reason he went on loan to Mallorca of his country in the second part of last season.
