Highlights: The Last of Us online game didn't appear on the latest PlayStation Showcase broadcast. Developer Nutty Dogg says Sony is "recalculating its course" as a result of the feedback they received from Bungie. The team will continue to work on the multiplayer and other games, including a new single-player game, and will "reveal details later," according to Nutti Dogg's Twitter account. "We are very proud of the progress and work that has been done, during which we realized that it would be better to give the game more time in development," he said.

The Last of Us Part I - Launch Trailer (Playstation)

Although PlayStation players complained at the recent Showcase broadcast about the broad emphasis on Live Service, there was one multiplayer title that was absent from the event, and would likely have been welcomed with open arms - The Last of Us series web mode.

Sony has pretty much kept wireless silent since it first announced the project. A picture here, concept art there' but nothing serious. About two days after the Showcase aired, Nutti Dogg releases a clarifying update regarding the state of the game, and the bottom line: it hasn't been revealed, because it's not exactly ready.

Nutty Dogg's Twitter account read: "We know you're looking forward to The Last of Us' online game. We are very proud of the progress and work that has been done, during which we realized that it would be better to give the game more time in development. The team will continue to work on the multiplayer and other games, including a new single-player game. We'll reveal details later."

Jason Schreier, Bloomberg's gaming reporter who is considered a credible leaker in the industry. Provided more details. He said Nutty Dogg took a step back after Bungie (acquired by Sony last year) looked at the project and "raised concerns." The main one was "the ability to get players to continue playing for an extended period".

Nutty Dog decided to reduce the scope of development and Sony is "recalculating its course" as a result of the feedback they received from Bungie. This does not mean that the multiplayer was canceled, but the team was significantly reduced and developers moved to work on other projects. Apparently the single player game mentioned in Nutty Dogg's statement.

Nutty Dogg may be known as an exemplary single-player developer, but Bungie's experience with multiplayer games speaks for itself. She is the original developer of Halo, and the Destiny series has lasted over a decade as a live service game. Given the new direction Sony intends to take in the coming years, Bungie seems to have been a particularly smart investment.
