The night was again difficult in Kiev. A new "massive" attack of Russian drones hit the Ukrainian capital very early Sunday morning, leaving at least one dead according to the authorities.
"In the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, due to a fall of drone debris near a gas station, a 35-year-old woman was hospitalized and a 41-year-old man died," Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said on Telegram. A fire also broke out at the premises of a company in the Holosiivskyi district, he added.
More than 20 drones shot down
The mayor had reported shortly after 2 am local (midnight in France) the first explosions, which continue this Sunday morning, according to him. The mayor called on the population to stay safe, warning of new waves of drones descending on Kiev "from several directions at once".
He also assured that the air defense of Kiev had shot down "more than 20 drones" that were heading towards the city.
The Ukrainian capital was regularly targeted in May. The head of the local civil and military administration, Serhïi Popko, had counted Friday "13 attacks" night since the beginning of the month.
