Internal friction over staffing the position on the prestigious committee? Yesh Atid opposition leader Yair Lapid called on Monday not to split the votes ahead of the Knesset vote on the opposition's representative on the Judicial Appointments Committee. The vote is expected next Wednesday (June 7). The deadline is June 15. According to custom, one representative from the coalition and one from the opposition is appointed.
Lapid demands that everyone stand behind the candidacy of MK Karine Elharrar of his party, a lawyer by training. However, Labor MK Efrat Reitan also intends to submit her candidacy.
"The opposition cannot destroy itself again," Lapid tweeted. "I call on members of the opposition not to split the votes and to stand behind Karine Elharrar as our representative on the Judicial Selection Committee. It is inconceivable that we would give Levin and Rothman such a gift and split the vote."

Reitan is also a natural candidate, as she is a lawyer, mediator and also has experience having been a member of the committee in the previous government.
MK Elharrar told the High Court of Justice this morning: "I really don't see why I won't be agreed upon by all members of the opposition. Of course there should be agreement and I think, modestly of course, that there are good reasons why I should be the candidate – I have a legal background and I know the system."
