The battle in the opposition is heating up: A source in the state camp attacked Yesh Atid chairman on Monday after his call for support for party MK Karine Elharrar for the judicial selection committee: "Lapid is trying to harness the horses before the wagon, jeopardizing the big move we were working on at the president's residence. According to the agreement that was formulated, the coalition will nominate only one candidate and will hold the elections on June 14."
The source added: "The Knesset Speaker has not yet announced the date of the elections and the deadline for submitting candidacy as required to secure the agreements, but it was important for Lapid to 'steal horses' and announce a candidate on his behalf without coordination with the other members of the opposition. All this while the elections on June 14 have not yet been guaranteed. It's a glorious self-goal for the efforts we've been putting in for weeks and a reward for the coalition. We recommend that he and all of us concentrate our efforts at this time on the important thing – to make sure that the date is set, and to make sure that the coalition puts forward one candidate on its behalf as agreed, so that the opposition's representation will be guaranteed."
Earlier today, Lapid tweeted that "the opposition cannot destroy itself again." Lapid called on opposition members to stand behind his faction member Karine Elharrar in the elections for the Judicial Selection Committee. This demand drew the ire of his opposition partners from the state camp.
