Changing your wiper blades: follow the guide

2023-05-29T04:31:37.504Z

Highlights: The operation is extremely simple. Slide the new broom on the arm, still raised, until the spike enters its housing. The rear broom is mounted on a ball head system. Once fully raised, simply gently take it out of its notch to unhook it. We spent €49.94 ordering the two front and rear brushes (Bosch models) on the Feu Vert website. We needed a screwdriver to push in the spur that holds the front brushes. Be careful that the arm remains well raised, if it falls violently on the windshield.

Having good visibility when driving in the rain is an obvious guarantee of safety. It is therefore advisable to perform this operation every year.

The windshield wipers of your car start to lack efficiency when it rains pouring? A little maintenance session is necessary before changing them, starting with a good cleaning of the windshield. If you don't have car cleaners, it's entirely possible to get by with household products. A few drops of dishwashing liquid and white vinegar mixed with hot water are enough to scrub the windows of your vehicle. Do not forget to also wipe the rubber parts of the brooms.

If, after that, they still leave black traces, continue to make noise and jerks, it is high time to change them.

Place your order

Unfortunately, there are no generic products that could be installed on all cars, each model having its own reference of windshield wipers. You will find new brooms in stores specializing in car parts (such as Feu Vert, Norauto...) or in supermarkets.

Remember to have the exact name and year of your vehicle's model or your license plate number to be sure to buy the right reference. For our part, we placed an order on the internet with a withdrawal in store to avoid paying the shipping costs.

How much does it cost?

Remove old brooms

Move your windshield wipers in the middle of the windshield, by hand, so that you can more easily lift them. On our Peugeot 5008 II, we needed a screwdriver to push in the spur that holds the front brushes. Drag them to remove them completely. Be careful that the arm remains well raised, if it falls violently on the windshield, it may damage it. While waiting to put the new brooms, place a piece of foam or cloth on the end to avoid any incident. The rear broom is mounted on a ball head system. Once fully raised, simply gently take it out of its notch to unhook it

Install the new ones

The operation is extremely simple. Slide the new broom on the arm, still raised, until the spike enters its housing. And that's it. As for the one on the back, just push it into its notch until the small "click", which proves its good fixation.

Check that it is working properly

To find out if everything is in place, nothing better than to perform a small test. Sprinkle front and rear windshields with windshield washer product and turn on windshield wipers. If you do not notice noises or traces, it is because everything is in order.

Our opinion

There are no small savings! Replacing your windshield wipers yourself avoids paying a handful of euros. Above all, you will not need to make an appointment and go to a garage. Once you have managed to identify the reference of the brushes corresponding to your vehicle (it is very simple in line with the license plate number), the implementation is child's play.
